No problems if people can't do the drive for a day, at this stage I wouldn't push longer until we have a general idea of how things went.
How does Saturday Oct 21st or 28th, or Nov 4th sound for dates that are more suited to some people here?

Hi all, putting the feelers out to get a little more serious about the workshop day.
Where would everyone sit for a Saturday in 6 weeks time?

One fella decides to become a monk, but he has to take a vow of silence. He is only permitted two words per year, but thats it.
After the first year, he is asked what his two words are, he replies 'more food'.
So they give him more food and another year goes by. After the second year they ask him what his two words are?
He replies, 'more blankets', so they give him more blankets.
Another year goes by and his time comes for his two words, so they ask him what he would say?
His reply is, 'I QUIT!'

Wood burner has a cook top on it. It flu's out well even with the door open and coals will cook stuff hard.
If you have a vaccum above your stove you could start a small fire in an old pot (i have a small camp firestove id use) on top of the stove you normally use and just run the fan to get the smoke out.
I also have electric fryer to cook.
Microwave.
Pressure cooker can cook well that goes on the fire as well.
I also have small gas stove for camping, and whilst they do not advise running gas without vents, it can be done, or you can open a window a little near where you cook.
you can boil water with elec or on the fire and blanche food or cook it in another packet or vessel in the water.
Youve also got steam cooking as well.

I dont understand why Russia and China idly stand by whilst their delinquent neighbour North Korea baits the US and Japan into increasing their military presence in the area. If I was Japan I'd be investing in nuclear ICBM's to counter the NK threat, which would annoy China greatly. I suspect some other game going on to be quite honest, and why? Well, China, as i understand it, is responsible for 80% of NK imports and exports. Its trades were up with NK 40% in the first quarter too. So why the large increase? Russia increased their trade with NK 'sharply' at the start of the year also. I know that with the information we all get, may not be able to reveal exactly what NK has done to its country and what it has been working on since 1953 either. Something 'might' not be right here. Bigger agenda? maybe? I dont know.

We have had meets here for several years now- getting up to 15-20 people My thoughts are 1 first meets are great informal chats as people swap notes and meet people in person they know from forums 2 show and tell flows from that 3 as meetings get bigger some structure/ format is required as it turns into multiple repeated small conversations rather than an efficient structured learning session Love to come Heaps of notice for rosters work family etc etc would be great Yes, very important input, thanks Gas.

It actually more complex then many would realise. In America we think of black vs white. In South Africa it is like English vs Afrikaans vs zulu vs Zhosa vs sotho vs people from surrounding countries. Native population far out weights the europens. Even Coloured (legal term for people people of mixed heritage, most american black would have been classified as colored) out numbers the white and sort of stuck. Military is pretty advanced for a developing country but has little thread from surrounding countries. Religion does not form part of major concerns, police brutality can be black on black, one party has majority support. It is a unique mess not seen in the rest of the world. Most people would have done some preps. Many just adapted as time goes by (or move to perth/nz). What we can learn is many south africans are well prepped but not particularly fearful, ubtil shtf, life goes on as normal Normal is very relative. When living in South Africa and staying in a remote private mining village, my bother came to visit and could not sleep as there were no bars on the windows or fenced wall around the house. If they come to Australia they are constantly locking everything looking over their shoulder, driving with doors locked. Cant park here too dangerous no security or cameras. They actually have a very high level of stress – that is their normal. After a few months is Aus they start to relax a bit but then go back to the insanity.
Yes South Africans are prepared with wood BBQ, generators, carrying guns and knives is legal, some food storage, house are well barricaded. Reports from Venezuela also say the average house is well barricaded with steel doors etc.. The threat there are much higher – very high unemployment – racial tension, poverty and low standard of education and little to no welfare.
It is a very sad state. I know what its like to live in a continual high stress and its not nice. One incident i had was locals first scaled cyclone fencing at 2.4mtrs high with 2 runs of barbed wire one time, then unbolted the whole bar grill from the concrete walls over the windows one night, so dont think bars are going to help you much, they just buy you some time if your home. If we had of had some dogs, it might have helped slow or stop them, but they even poisoned some peoples dogs first. This is why we had neighbors who trained their dogs to only eat from their dish in one spot. And this was in a country most wouldnt even think to worry about, let alone what seems to be going on in SA. Take a look at the current President leading people in a song about machine gunning white folk in SA down, no doubts the next bloke who is more extreme will action it if he gets in, far out!

For sure, the forum is an extremely strong resource which allows for continuation of interest and connections. I also think it would be great to have tables to the sides which have displays, even if someone has a bug out bag spread or an inch bag spread for show and tell. It will go along with the workshops for the time in between for people to look at and converse etc. One thing that i am hoping to get into is turkeys, and boy, do i have a guru on turkeys, along with the possibilities that you can grab eggs or birds immediately to start your own incubating/breeding from what has taken this woman years to breed. Also, all natural soaps. All about Goats workshop. Local Honey sampling from friends bees and much more. Just hoping we could get a good turnout but not sure how that would go to make it a great day.

It may need to go longer to cover a few of the things listed? A fantastic idea....I wouldn't be able to attend anything like this this year, but if it becomes an annual event I'd fly over for it ☺ Thanks FE, when you say 'longer' are you referring to the event as a whole in order to 'cover' workshop topics? If you were, I had a mate say the same, but i was considering more entry level discussions into these subjects, that could initiate and stimulate further conversations, education, and or, future workshops where part 2 of said topic could continue, and or folk end up talking in the free time to learn more. I was hoping for a question and answer time in or after every session also. Or, more of a general overview. In my mind, with a whole bunch of topics i just cannot see how we could have enough time as it was to cover even 1 topic tbh. The other thing too is, by having 4 topics that differ from each other some people might not be interested in certain topics, but come back in future or still very much enjoy the event because 1 subject interested them. Open again to thoughts, prefer this to be an event brought together and orchestrated by a heap of people.

Australia in the future, or Melbourne now. Wouldn't be surprised. I have lived in another country where i was distinguishable to locals, and you have to be cautious. Got robbed twice, feared for the kids being abducted under ransom also, been lied to, deceived, ripped off numerous times. Id be a part of this group of preppers in an instant if i lived there, for the purposes of self preservation, who wouldn't be? Imagine if this happened here in Australia, it could if they had the numbers.

Its interesting how the reporter asks 'isn this just racism?' in accusing the Suidlanders, oh yes, it is racism indeed, but against white people.
For goodness sake, get educated on what is happening and then give some consideration to why white folk might be banding together to run away to a specific place to try and stay alive if such an event were to occur!

Here are some considerations i have put together, please feel free to chime in and or disagree, all opinions are valid and will be considered as nothing is in concrete as of yet.
1) The Event is 100% free
2) The Event is not 'registered', just a communal gathering of people possibly interested in subjects coming together.
3) There is no official leader, rather some folk that facilitate the event and obviously its my name on the venue so i dont want it trashed and if someone turns into an idiot i can ask them to please leave.(im not expecting this, but ive dealt with people/crowds for a long time and it does and can happen, so just saying).
4) It needs to be a non-prepper friendly event that helps people understand preparedness from a kindergarden level as their might be folk who aren't preppers there, also possible homesteaders, farmers, hunters, or just plain locals with nothing else to do or taking a look etc.
5) Business's are free to contact me if you want to come and sell stuff, and ill set you up a table, but products need to be in line with anything to do with preparedness. I have friends who may possibly set up a table with all sorts of their gun shop odds and ends bar anything guns and ammo as its illegal unless permitted and then causes our event to have to be registered, licensed and hire security bla bla.
6) Re workshops educators.
a) What will be available for you is a computer with powerpoint and or media file playing abilities, a large screen and projector for display. Microphone, amp, tables, and whatever else you might need just let me know.
b) Family event. I have spoken to an older prepper mate about whether i should run an 'adults only' event, or open it to 'the whole family' as i know that folk will want to bring their children, but if the words fly (like ive seen as some registered hunting gigs) it wont go down well. My friend uses rough language and he told me that even as a trady he knows their is an etiquette on the job site where he doesn't use obscenities, so workshop runners would need to keep it clean. (Im open to thoughts on this still though so chime in if you agree/disagree).
c) Keep it legal. I can never guarantee you who is in the building, so you will have to be careful with your words or cautious in respect to any content which may step across lines that we probably didnt even know existed (sigh).
7) Times:
Saturday. 8am Hall open for setup and workshop speakers, business's, kitchen. 10-11am, First workshop 11-15am coffee break 11:15-12:15 Second workshop 12:15am-1pm Lunch 1-2 Third workshop 2-2:15 Coffee break 2:15-3:15 Fourth Workshop Close
Thoughts please. thanks

Absolutely! You putting your hand up for a possible? I'll have to look at how far away from me this is. When I started reloading it seemed so intimidating, but it's not hard once you get your head around it. Certainly sounds good mate, let me know what you might need this side, same goes with anyone who takes a shop. I have a number of mates who reload, they arent preppers, and are slowly coming around to the logical understanding of such as a result of some good conversations we have, however, they are Yahoo rednecks which know their guns and hunting, and one bloke has more guns than i can count and a full room of automatic looking $4000 each (i think hes got 2 or 3 of these) reloading presses and all sorts of gear. The other bloke was just telling me last night about running loads today to check if his .308 barrel is fine and getting it changed out to a 3006AI for 600 mtr kills, bla bla. These two blokes have offered their properties for camping and or events, both you can sight in on legally and they have ranges. But i would prefer at this stage to run the first event from a lonely community hall, and possibly leave the camping side of things to their place or my spread.

That would be good, and although none of us are firearms instructors (I think) maybe a basic familiarity course for those here who haven't handled guns (if there are any ). Not sure of the legalities of that though. Private property location for that workshop will solve that problem, as nothing official, just mates taking a look at someone's setup.
