PS: Later my internet went down, all the modem lights were on but couldn't connect to anything. Good thing I'm not paranoid

Yesterday I was over at my neighbour's place having a yap over coffee, we heard a jet and thought nothing of it for a second or two until it became obvious something was not normal.
We stand up and look in the direction of the noise to see a big-arsed jet cruising past, and I mean past not over. We where on a hill and I reckon the jet was at our level but over the adjacent valley so it had a little air under it but not much.
How big-arsed? Think C-5 Galaxy big, huge four-engine transport. All grey with no markings at all (IIRC).
Any ideas? I heard they have a new radar that will detect any plane in SEQ and we're thinking they were testing that for the G20.

I reckon the term used was "bail in", an expression that means the banks can take your saving to get themselves out of trouble. Apparently there is legislation afoot in the EU to allow this, dunno about Oz but if they are doing it elsewhere they'll do it here if they see the need.

That's an Arduino Mega compatible processor board, it does whatever you program it to do but you have to add hardware to interface with the real world. For example add a few relays and make an irrigation controller. Add a motor controller and make a robot, etc etc.

I NEVER buy a phone or modem that doesn't have provision for an external aerial, a good broomstick will get you 2-3 bars and a Yagi is even better (I haven't tried a Yagi but a mate uses one)

Yeah, that'd work It's odd that I don't indulge in such high-tech things because my job was (and still is part time) designing electronics hardware and software, for example here's my last creation So I'm well up on high-tech, just have no use for these two examples of it.

I don't think I've ever texted anyone, if so I can't remember, and the last video game I played was Wolfenstien 3 IIRC, maybe 20 years ago. Dunno what weapon I had.
So I guess I'm screwed.

The day I hit 55 I took all my super out, same with the missus (we both had < $145k). I don't trust the bastards not to either lose it or force you to take an annuity.

A real mag would cost 100s of $1000s and you then need distribution, but it's doable as an eMag I reckon.
And yes we are very similar to the Yanks but there are also a lot of differneces in culture, laws, climate etc etc.

MASSIVE amount of work like you would not believe.
At one point I was writing an article for a mag most months, that was huge and only a single article that I already had photos for. I can't even imagine the amount of work required to do an entire mag.

Like everyone it seems I would like to form a MAG of some kind, but with everyone living all over the place and OPSEC concerns it seems doomed to failure.

Yeah, most of the things we go on about are interrelated, so I tend to look at the expected end result as that's probably the same regardless of the cause, or at least there are several levels of end result, from just services getting expensive (already happening I suppose) to full-blown Mad Max.
Bottom line for me is A) to have no real (ie needed for survival) dependencies on the system and B) be able to defend myself against expected threats (I have yet to really define "expected threats", but it's way below fighting an organised militia, let alone the Army).

Financial system shitting itself, that's a given IMO. Maybe pandemic although I don't think it will have any legs in a western society...still you never know.

We have at least 5 scrub turkeys that hang around, I can hand feed 2 of them. They dig up the wood chip a lot and I have to remind them that Christmas is approaching

SM+?, you must be happy with beer a lot warmer than I am, or you live 100 yards below a melting glacier

Pretty cute, maybe in Manitoba but I doubt the deep-earth temp around central QLD would be cold enough.

In my last Cruiser I had dual tanks and 8 jerry cans. Beat that Mind you with that old gas guzzler I could barely make it between towns even with all that. Refuelling out in the Diamantina.
