Here on the West Coast of the South Island we have been preparing and education people about the AF8 for several years. The government has this website. getready.govt.nz/en/In Civil Defence we always aware of the possibilities and I'd like to say we have been actively training for it but unfortunately current boss is focused on other things. Consequently I was recently recruited into the St John (ambulance provider) Major Incident Support Team. I also think this is a good reference

We suffered a total loss house fire in 2001. I wouldn't wish the pain on anyone. The insurance company were difficult and tried to short change us at every move.
The issues with my firearms and reimbursement were farcical and the NSW Firearms Registry were are an incredible help when it came to the crunch.

I am very familiar with the Alpine Fault and Subduction Zone reports due to my connection with Civil Defence on the West Coast. I believe I have put this link up before. af8.org.nz/ If this occurs it will affect all of the South Island and into the Subduction Zone. This is why New Zealanders should Prep.

Wood stove with a wet back that is currently connected to radiators and hot water cylinder.
A hand cranked egg beater and butter churn
when I read wet back, I laughed and thought "what's a Mexican doing connected to your radiator and hot water cylinder"? I'll berate myself now! That's what they're called here in NZ.
I am not going to hold you up to the politically correct spotlight.... Too much of that already

In New Zealand's South Island we are advised to prep for the AF8. af8.org.nz/ Gotta love NZ. This is how I got my wife on board. She got lessons on what to do during an earthquake. Most people wouldn't last a day without running out of something crucial. It is a real issue as I will be involved in the response should/when it occurs at a regional IMT level and we know there is not enough preparation in the community

I think that we need to go back to man on ground intelligence rather than electronic eavesdropping. We are not getting Intel that is actionable. We have been at this since 2001 and still have not learned that the only way in is on the ground.

Wan other reason to rejoice about living on an Island Hole your boat and you have no escape! Third largest Island in Australia. 4500 square kilometres to hide in. Boat not really an issue.
