I'd avoid any places that sell stuff to the public, these are the first places the hordes will flock to as they are familiar and its all most know.
As you say small businesses may be protected by the owners in SHTF events, at first anyway.
For other places to source supplies, schools would be one. They have canteens and a decent supply of food etc. Same for larger work sites or industries they usually have a work place canteen.

Honestly I think the stores are the last places I'd want to be for a very long time after a RWOL disaster.
Everyone who is unprepared is going to go there and sooner than later gangs/mobs/bandits etc will be installed there making them some of the most unsafe places in the country.
I think the potential risk vs scavenging some non food items is just not worth it.
That said I'd be after maintenance items/replacement parts. Oils, cleaning liquids, bleach, water containers, solder, wiring, filters etc

Vortex.
Best bang for your buck.
You should easily get a decent pair of 8x25 for under $300

So is the world just going to sit by and let this nutter continue or are we finally going to do something about it? It should have been handled years ago before they became a threat with nukes.

If you have to stay closer to town for work or whatever then;
Option 2.
Lets face it SHTF may never happen, do you want to be driving so much further to get to places every day? The cost in time and fuel doing so every day, every week, every year adds up to be quite a lot.

1-2 months, probably a reasonable estimate though I think I could get longer. As it says food is my weak point, just don't have the storage capabilities to stock months and months worth at present. The second half of the quiz I did much better in with lots of ticks and max slider bars

“Why are ticket inspections deemed more important than passenger safety?”
Well that has an obvious answer, revenue. They make money from handing out fines for those who don't have a ticket. They don't make any money from intervening in fights, especially if one of their employees is injured doing so.

No fuel to get to the pistol club to meet the mandatory shoots equals handguns seized by police. lol, I've walked to my club before. Back pack, 2 handguns 400rds of ammo and other gear, it did take about 2 hours though that was probably because it was the middle of summer.

In NSW, there is I believe a 12 kg of propellant powder limit. There is no limit on the max amount of loaded ammo that I have ever been able to find.
The 10K limit in QLD must get broken a lot, especially if they count primers, I buy them by that amount and .22LR by a min of 5k

Worksafe already has max ammo at one location. Assume this can be exceeded but not sure if exceeding it requires DG licensing or a worksafe inspection with extinguishers, special storage lockers etc. I don't think there is any limit on the amount of loaded ammo at home, there is for powder though.

The only thing that really concern me is if they start going crazy with storage requirements for more than X number of guns, like they have listed for the security firms and if they try and implement a max amount of stored ammo.

I understand why terrorists blow things up, they are used to living in societies that don't listen to them... Or Civil uprisings/war. When people keep getting screwed they tend to want to lash out after awhile.

Interesting how the documents link is under "crime and corruption" yet there's nothing in this NFA document about reducing illegal firearms or crime or corruption, it just targets lawful firearms owners.

I've never relied on the police for my safety. Safety's not really the core of their job anyway, in my opinion... they're more there to investigate / prosecute afterwards (a worthwhile task in any case) Its supposed to be their No.1 purpose, they sure like to tell us it is anyway, they're just not very good at it.

Probably not, but it also depends on the means of contact. An email is less likely to get a reply than an actual letter IMO
