Hi Frank,
First of all, I'm really sorry you are having trouble signing up.
I've done some digging and it seems like there is an issue with any of the Microsoft email services (Hotmail, MSN, Outlook etc) that have blocked all of ProBoards (they company that hosts our forum) activation emails.
They have their tech's looking into a workaround but until then it seems the only way to create a new account is to use an email address from one of the other email providers such as Gmail or Yahoo.
Unfortunately there is no way we can authorise your new account at this end either and this is happening to all ProBoards forums, not just Ausprep.
I will keep monitoring this and can drop you an email when ProBoards and Microsoft have sorted this out if you don't want to use a different email address.
Cheers,
Jason

Did you know that you can get a text message through to Triple Zero (000) in an emergency? Using the National Relay Service as an intermediary you can send a text message to the NRS number (0423 677 767) that will be read out by a NRS operator and they will place a call to 000 on your behalf and then relay messages, again via SMS, back to your phone. This could be useful in a situation where you wanted to maintain silence (perhaps during a home robbery) or were unable to speak due to injury or being gagged. These are unusual situations, but as preppers it pays to have options, and using the NRS to contact emergency services is one such option. If you put 000 in your message it will be prioritised, but as all SMS is store and forward technology its delivery can not be guaranteed to be instant. It is not limited to emergency calls, it can be used to contact anyone on any number and although it was created for people with disabilities, it is a free service open to anyone. If you want more info check out the FAQ here: relayservice.gov.au/faqs/sms-relay-faqs/ and tips for using the service here: relayservice.gov.au/support/tips-for-making-calls/tips-for-sms-relay-calls/Put the NRS number in your phone - 0423 677 767 - you may need it one day?

The problem is Aus, that could be one of the way's how the SHTF will start! So I say to myself regularly, have I got enough preps??? And as Jay said, we are so reliant on modern tec, if something happens even for a short time people panic!!! Gaz thats a great point - at what point does something like this go from being a short term nuisance to a real SHTF situation - and at what point do you decide to act. Thinking out loud and with my work situation in mind what would you do in the follow situation? 10am on a Wednesday morning, sitting in front of the computer going through KPI reports when suddenly the screen goes blank and the lights go out. Everyone is happy to have a break from work and mills around chatting and wondering when the power will come back on, but looking out the office window you notice that cars are backed up as the traffic lights are out of order too, and people in the nearby offices and shops are all standing around outside, obviously the power is not just out in your office. A quick call to the wife's mobile phone and all you get is her voice mail - that would be right, she has probably left it on the counter at home when she went to work this morning. With the power still out in the office, and it starting to get stuffy with the AC off, you head down the stairs and out to the underground car park which which is banked up at the exit as the gate is out of power, and no one knows how to raise the boom manually. Now what? At what point of all this do you grab your backpack and head home? Do you stay at work for an hour, two, all day? Do you wait for your boss to tell you to go home early, or wait for the power to come back on? What about your kids at school - are they without power too? What will your wife do, will she pick the kids up or just head home, do you need to pick the kids up or meet them at home? Just as the panic sets in and you realise that you should have had a plan for something like this, the exit sign by the gate flickers on followed by the rest of the lights - the black out is over - phew that was lucky, this time anyway!

These rang true for me! You know you’re a prepper if you watch Doomsday Prepper and pick apart everything they are doing wrong. You know you’re a prepper if your idea of a second home is a shipping crate. You know you’re a prepper if you know the names of every character on Walking Dead. You know you’re a prepper when you can pick out other preppers at Walmart (insert Aussie shops) based on what they have in their cart.

Ive got a few torches from wind up to some bloody strong Led Lenser jobs. For the battery operated ones I mainly have AA type for consistency, as I reckon it would be harder to scrounge D type batteries down the track.

Assume it is for your primary plan when SHTF (bug in v. bug out) or if you want to keep that on the down low go with being mobile.

Fantastic post mate, all your points are great and I only can add support to a couple of your existing topics. Start LearningWhen I first started I wasnt thinking bigger picture, I spent time and money buying things, mostly cheap stuff from ebay etc, rather than having a well rounded plan and getting good quality things where required. I put more focus on things rather than skills which I now realise was the completely around the wrong way. EquipmentI missed out on lots of great bargains at garage sales, auctions and markets when people were selling old cooking and farming books, manual tools like drills and planes etc that will still work when the power goes out. I remember a guy buying 3 boxes of magazines for $1 which I now realise were probably a full collection of Grass Roots magazines and other useful books.

Do we have a page that mentions businesses we buy from. Yes, you can post any good bargains you have found (including businesses) here: www.ausprep.com/board/16/bargains

My wife and I regularly watch the show and look at all the things that we would do differently - like why do they stay on the ground floor of buildings rather than go to upper floors and barricade the stairs etc. Obviously all of these things are for dramatic effect, after all it is for entertainment but it is interesting (and useful for me to get my wife thinking about things post SHTF) to think about these things.

Im almost exactly the same as Wayne - I see it being a gradual decline in the economy that will be helped along by some of the powers that be. This will cause an increase in unemployment, crime and civil disobedience which in term will involve increased government control to the point of martial law. From here it will quickly dissolve in to an all out chaos.
Id like to be far away from the cities when all this begins, but at least before it gets to the point of riots in the suburbs.

Yeah I think the longer one goes on (we had one here for 5 hours) the more you think ok, what if it doesn't come back on, what are my next steps etc. In that first 1-6 hours I think its just a laugh for the kids etc, but Im still keeping an eye on the power outages and an ear on the radio in case it is something bigger.
