In SE queensland..... have dug a trench around my chicken coop so it is higher than the surrounding ground, I also have a tarp over the "scratching" area so most of it stays relatively dry or dries out quickly when the rain stops and the mulch is fairly thick Yer i thought so bud as here, unless mid summer, we hold the moisture and ive slipped on small patches of clumped grass clippings like they are mud in the coop when i used them. If its dry cut grass it does work but i found cos it clumps together, when they poop, you get clods of it lol. The sugar cane mulch bales worked ok though, it seems the ones i had at least were really really dry and a lot finer than the round bales of straw i get. Have you tried the wood shavings at all? no haven't tried it yet.... haven't found anyone who sells it round here, I think the trick with the mower is I have a mulcher mower so there is a lot of crunched up leaves, twigs etc mixed in with the grass which helps it to dry out (i hate raking lol) rather than it being only grass clippings

I use a mixture of cane mulch and mower clippings.... wet the mixture down once a week, wait a day to let it dry out and add more... no smell and no flies

Ok if petrol prices are insanely inflated my job goes out the window.... so growing food on my 3/4 acre that I can sell is my priority so i can trade with locals for meat and fish... i would stock my gold fish pond (20,000L) very quickly with silver perch and buy some food for them

Watched a show a few years back about diets and dieting... aparently in a famine/austere environment the first people to die are skinny people... stands to reason, in previous times rich people were fat and lasted a lot longer than poor people who were skinny... dont worry about trying to eat paleo when you are relying on your preps as one meal of carbs a day will keep you looking thin anyway

All this is good, but what I was mainly after was info on setting the property up for food production. Always a good idea to have 1 veg garden bed that gets full winter sun (6-7 hrs) and summer shade/ protection you will be amazed what you can grow... my last northern winter bed was .5 m across and 2m long, it kept me in autumn/winter/spring tomatoes/cucumbers and brazillian spinach when not much was growing in other sections of the garden

Lavender oil... soothes stings/headaches/anxiety and fixes burns if you put it on neat straight away (just burned myself again cooking dinner) helps to take away the pain and stops blistering

Hey Joey how about the fact that we have just (and I mean just) voted in a government that probably doesnt give a rats about the bigger picture but will want to micromanage "the people" to death and americans are caught between a rock and a hard place ... basically Hillary or Trump that situation no matter how it ends is not going to end well

Tyburn chuck some cow poo on the tomato and trim it... it may surprise you yet and you might need to physically pollinate the pumpkin flowers especially if you don't have any bees hanging around (just give each flower a quick shake)
