They both matter. you need to know rice and beans alone will eventually kill you which is technically correct. You also need to be practically correct to remediate any limitations of eating rice and beans alone such as munging on a rat and eating some weeds, Having technical knowledge of austere diets is more important in my opinion and will lead you to identify what you can do practically to live a bit longer.

Almond milk is an awesome replacement for cow milk in hot chocolate drinks. it gives the drink a more sophisticated flavour and is also quite filling. What is its shelf life like? Seems to have a best before date of about 12 months. I’d say they only have a production run every now and again due to limited demand. maybe the more recent runs have a better best before? I don’t know.

+1 on flavourings. Plenty of salt, pepper, stock cubes, ‘erbs and spices will make life more bearable. Better yet grown your own herbs and spices. They are easy and will save you a bucket load of cash if you cook with them regularly as opposed to buying them from he shops.
Stealth, those blackbean burgers sound pretty nice. The smoke flavours would be awesome.

In Australia you take your bags withy you when going shopping leave a few in the car. Covid rules in Australia have dramatically been walked back. I got a pos covid test today, All I have to do is isolate for 7 days no further testing if there are no ongoing symptoms after the 7 days. During the previous lockdowns in NSW Australia it got to like 2,000 infections a day now it is +22,000 a day, system is overwhelmed. Omicron variant is going to save the world from covid. The 1918 Spanish flu killed 57million and was beaten as it evolved into a much more infectious strain without deadly symptoms, exactly what southern Africa has given us with Omicron variant - vaccinations are just delaying the solution. best wishes for a speedy recovery mate.

Well done and good luck. A word of wisdom, don’t be too keen to move to the bush block. Work ya butt off, have fun, travel with work then when you feel you are ready to slow down move to the bush block. I bought my block a few years ago but i feel like all the other old buggers in my valley, retired. I’m seriously thinking of going back to the desert to further my career and have a boot load of fun at the same time. I’ve got too much spring in my step to stay here and if it really goes balls up then i can always come back to the farm.

Anyone seen an update on this? the Federal gov made an agreement with incitec to retrofit the plant they were going to close in Brissy. They will upgrade it to make high end urea for a minimum of 3 months then apparently all the problems will be solved. a cool $26 or so million was given to incitec to do this.

Pressure relief is vital. I have limited experience in. steam but i have seen a 2kg lump of corned beef turned into particles as it was ejected through a faulty relief valve in a pressure cooker. there was strands of beef al through out the mother in laws kitchen. lucky no one was in the room upon ejection.

Didn’t you hear mwt? Australia has a strategic oil reserve. It’s in an underground cavern in Texas. Yeah it’s half way around the globe as in Texas USA not texas Southern QLD.. Sounds pretty strategic huh.

hopefully they start selling off their Australian residential property portfolio. Could be some increased availability to the market reducing prices a bit. I've heard talk that Chinese portfolios generally focus around commercial properties and entities rather than residential, despite what the MSM would lead us to believe. I don't know how much truth there is to that. I'm not a property manager. But if they are focused on commercial properties and entities... Let that sink in. How much of our remaining industry might rely on Chinese money? I know that there's several massive cattle farms up north that are owned by Chinese entities. Manufacturing (what little there is) in our country is already tenuous without realising that those companies could shut down overnight if they decide to pull funding. Yeah i dunno, i’ve observed chinese buying whole suburbs with cash in the 90’s and they have australian agents sniffing around my area to buy more rural and residential property so i reckon they own a heap of our property. I was in Sydney the other day and was pleased to see much more diversity of race in the CBD. a few years ago it was 90% chinese. I may appear bigoted, but the calculations add up in regard to the missing people being chinese.

Lost, common sense is not common and while i get what you are saying careful what you wish for. I agree, just an off hand remark. What do you mean by "careful what you wish for" Less government now or for more egalitarian common sense?
Either way, this age or time in history is one that is going to probably end in mass destruction for all at some point in the not too distant future.
You cant fix stupid!
just that commonsense is not common and the outcome could be dictated by the numpty masses leading to you and i scratching our heads asking "how did we get to this"

Off the top i believe the electoral process and elected official governance is flawed. Someone said “why don’t you run for a seat” or something similar on another thread. The costs to do so prevent sensible Joe to have a fair crack let alone the actual process of registering etc. Simplify this process, allow Joe or Josephine to have a platform to launch a campaign from the ground level.
Remove all political “donations” Treat white collar crime as an actual crime with real time behind bars for the bad boys. Example Eddie obeid. 3 yrs gaol for millions in crime is a joke. Let men be men and boys be boys. Bring back manufacturing. Put tariffs on imports that use slave labour etc so we can compete again. Stop making/importing cheap crap that breaks. Stop importing cars we can’t work on. Spend $ on supporting our own innovations and develop them into Aussie businesses. Reduce the non contributors our society unless they are self funded. Don’t implement the “big australia” policy. replace global mega monopolies with local alternative. Stop selling so much iron and coal. Use it to make stuff here. Don’t listen to the carbon guilt being applied to Australia. Stop the fear of litigation from ruining local public events. Speed up deportations of imported rotten eggs. Go all oit Chinese on kids access to devices and gaming. Get rid of all the bloody gambling ads on TV. Open areas for more public access and use. there’s more!
Lost, common sense is not common and while i get what you are saying careful what you wish for.

I can see a Dr Karl experiment coming on. How about putting a thermometer in the thermos, insulated water bottle or whatever and leaving it in a hot car? Once baking hot, open thermos and check the temp of the thermometer and see how hot it gets.
